Serendipity in Seattle
Discovering New Collaborators
I’m writing this from an Airbnb in Seattle after returning from the WTIA (Washington Technology Industry Association) founder gathering. A year ago, I was selected to be part of WITA’s Founder Cohort Program, which has continued to be an invaluable resource now that I’m building Nice Industries. I’m grateful for WTIA's ongoing efforts to develop Seattle into a vibrant hub for entrepreneurs while promoting innovation and collaboration within the startup community, both locally and beyond.
I made a last-minute decision to spend a few days in Seattle before the event, and I’m glad I did! It turned out to be a serendipitous week filled with meeting incredible people. I got to connect with the brilliant folks behind 9Zero, Climate Tech Handbook, FarmRaise, Conservation International, Climatebase, and Amazon Investor Coalition, sharing Nice's mission with each of them. One of the most rewarding aspects of working in the impact space is discovering and meeting inspiring individuals dedicated to making a positive difference.
Between meetings, I've been planning an impact organization gathering in Bellingham, Washington, for next month. A recent screening event for the documentary "Uncharitable" revealed that my county alone has over 1,500 nonprofits. This inspired me to create an opportunity for these organizations to connect, share their work, and explore collaboration possibilities.
I've also made some design updates to the Nice platform:
Added profile pictures and names for organizations
Implemented colored tabs to differentiate opportunity types (educational, volunteer, etc.) directly in the feed
I'm not satisfied with the names I'm using to describe each type of opportunity, but I’m confident that the right words will emerge as I gather user feedback.
Nick had a busy week meeting with two potential lead investors and with several blockchains for potential integration onto their networks. Finding the right long term partner with the proper technical capabilities is important to building a long lasting solution to our technical needs. Jess M. has been organizing an upcoming community event in Austin and created an exciting sponsorship deck.
We love to help impact organizations share their stories and connect with supporters. If you have an impact organization you'd like featured on Nice, let us know by sending an email to connect@nice.industries.
